Strengthening Civil Society Action – Meeting the Needs of Disabled Children and their Families

30 months  program implemented by CIE and UAFA in partnership with European Commission.

GOAL

The needs and value of disabled children and their families will be respected in society, as a result of increased support of vulnerable children, their families and necessary community-based services by Government and society as a whole

Objectives

To empower civil society to raise awareness of their needs and increase accountability of State bodies

To improve governance as a result of new level of feedback between the State and society

To provide quality education to children with disabilities

To replace the need for residential institutions for disabled children with a system of inclusive education and targeted community-based services

To reduce stigma towards disability held by society which impacts upon integration to society

Expected Outcomes

An increased capacity amongst CBRCs in advocacy work

An increased number of self-help groups, Parents’ Associations, which represent direct interests of disabled children and their families

A strong Network of CBRCs which successfully campaigns at a national level

An increased number of mainstreamed children with disabilities

Decentralization of the national social service provision through recognition of NGO service providers

Target groups

Community-Based Rehabilitation Centres (CBRCs) and Parents’ Associations (PAs)

Local authorities, including municipalities

Social Policy and Science and Education Commissions, Parliament

Final beneficiaries – children with disabilities and their families
